RAPD assays of parental genomic DNA produced banding
patterns characteristic of each species. Different
banding patterns were obtained from 30 primer sets
(Sangon listed, Shanghai). Two primer sets, S374 and
S462, were selected for this analysis. The PCR products
generated by S374 and S462 had characteristics of both
parents (Fig. 5a, b) when hybrid plant material was used
as template material, further indicating the plants regenerated
from the clones were somatic hybrids. Some differences
were observed in the banding patterns from each
of the hybrids, indicating a rearrangement of the DNA
material from both parents.
