Development of the study enabled the authors to document that
most of the environmental impact associated with the system analysed
comes from production of expandable PS granulates and from consumption
of electricity as both required for tray manufacturing. This
has to be attributed mainly to the exploitation of primary energy
resources, such as crude oil and natural gas, and also to the emission
(in air) of carbon dioxide, thereby contributing to affecting both nonrenewable
energy resource stock and climate change.
