Dry Weather
Prolonged dry weather affecting parts of the region has resulted in an escalation of hot spot activities. Dry weather has created fire-prone conditions, and a growing number of haze-producing “hot spots” have been detected. A pulp and paper giant in Indonesia are also hinting of an increase in burning in Indonesia which will result in more hot spots giving an increase to haze in Singapore. Haze can be due to hotspots to the north of Singapore, blown in by prevailing northeasterly winds. Droughts in Southeast Asia can also be associated with an aggravated haze in Singapore.
