distractions.” The taller girl pouts as she disentangles their bodies, daring to tuck away an unrestrained blonde curl behind the superstar’s ear. The door creaked as it opened and Karlie and Taylor turn quickly to see Harry and Louis entering hand in hand. “Karlie was just helping me touch up my lipstick,” Taylor stammers, trying to mask her embarrassment. They were exchanging lip products, just in a slightly different way than implied. Harry nodded absentmindedly, and then dropped his boyfriend’s hand.
“Yeah same here,” Louis joked, his British accent growing thicker with his nervousness. Harry was rendered speechless. Taylor pulls a dumbstruck Karlie by the wrist, “Yeah we were just leaving,” she says awkwardly as they pass the boys on their way out. Once outside the bathroom they share a look. The shorter girl dismisses it and urgently calls for everyone to take their seats for thanksgiving dinner. It’s game time.
The dining hall consists of many circular tables with guests seated according to Taylor’s preference. At the front of the room she and Karlie share a table with Cara, Selena, Ed, and Athina. Two seats stay unoccupied due to Harry and Louis’s whereabouts. Four large turkeys and many other various dishes, such as Taylor’s own famous apple pie with homemade cinnamon crumble topping, complete the long rectangular table at the end of the hall. The happy voices die down with a clink to Taylor’s glass as she stands to make a speech, the one she had been dreading all evening.
“So as a few of you may have noticed,” Taylor smirks into the microphone, looking out to all of her friends, “It’s Thanksgiving.” She is met with some laughs at her vague sarcasm. “And on this lovely holiday, we all come together as a whole to count our blessings. We dress in our Sunday best, though it is a Thursday I’ll have you know,” more snickers erupt from the crowd. “We watch football, and we make big announcements. I kind of felt the need to explain the purpose of this to our friends from across the pond” she says with a twinkle in her eye as she looks over at Ed and the One Direction gang a few tables away, two of which are still off messing around. “On this particular Thanksgiving I have a particular announcement that needs to be made,” she proclaimed, breaking into a nervous smile. “Everybody knows Karlie right?” The room claps politely as Karlie rises at her side. “Well she is my girlfriend. This Thanksgiving and for all to come, she is the one I am most grateful for.” They share a kiss as everyone in their presence claps furiously, cheering and yelling words of encouragement. Taylor wipes a tear from her beaming eyes and wraps her arm around Karlie’s waist. She pulls the microphone up to her lips once more and the crowd silences. “Everyone is welcome to stay overnight if they want. There are twelve guest bedrooms and about nineteen couches. Oh and there’s a shed full of alcoholic beverages my brother would be more than happy to open up for your selection,” she says glancing at a slightly annoyed Austin, standing at the back of the room with a video camera, documenting the moment for all of hung over guests who won’t remember this tomorrow. The crowd cheers again then begins to fill their plates with rich food and delicacies.
The girls breathe a sigh of relief. “It feels like such a huge weight was just taken off of my shoulders,” Taylor remarks, proudly placing a kiss on her girlfriend’s cheek. They make their way to the buffet, hearing echoes of congratulations.
“I gave you the idea to do this you know,” Karlie teases with a flirty undertone, “Maybe you can repay me tonight.”
