These statements are also true when exchanging Cl by Br or
I
. Actually, the stability constants of Hg(II) complexes with Br
and I ligands are even higher than of those with Cl. Also,
multi-ligand complexes consisting of Hg(II) with several different
ligands (e.g. Cl, Br and S(IV) compounds) are suggested by several
authors [26–28]. It has to mentioned, that Br and I concentration
in typical FGD waste waters is by several orders of
magnitude lower than Cl content. Thus, for the experiments
within this study, focus is put on the impact of the predominant
halide Cl. However, for power plants firing fuels with high Br
and/or I content or utilizing bromine based Hg control strategies,
the concentration of the corresponding halides in the slurry is
more significant and should be considered as well.
