5. EXPERIMENTS & RESULTS
Important performance parameters which have been used to
evaluate the communication concept and optimize the relevant parameters are throughput, packet delivery ratio
(PDR), collision ratio and end-to-end delay.
The throughput is defmed as the average rate of successful
delivered packets in bits per second. We distinguish
gross-throughput, which refers to all successful transmitted
packets including control packets and net-throughput, which
refers only to those packages, which arrive at the
corresponding application layer. The throughput is
calculated according to Formula 3. Therefore, the
net-throughput includes packet overhead, but no additional
control overhead by control packets. Both throughputs also
take waiting times, e.g. for channel access, into account.
The net-throughput is of special interest and thus it is
referred to 'throughput' in the remainder of the publication
