• The students may manage their own study time as they wish (asynchronous study), performing other activities more freely such as a professional internship in industry.
• Webtechnologies, suchasinteractiveapplications, canbe incorporated to the course contents, increasing effectively the appeal for learning.
• Computer-mediated learning can replace traditional lec- tures with much more efficiency related to the time being used in the learning process.
• Interactiveweb-basedenvironmentscanmakefeasiblethe increasing of number of admissions with the same staff.
However, some disadvantages were also noted in this ap- proach:
• The initial investment in preparation of the material con- tents, including the interactive applications that often re- quire specialized computational programming and multi- media resources, can be high.
• Some students have great difficulty in learning by them- selves in a computer-mediated environment, showing lack of initiative in using the communication tools to ask for help, requiring personal explanations.
• Difficultiesofprintingthematerialandcomputer/webac- cessibility.
