Contact dermatitis to cosmetics is a common and growing problem in dermatology. As such, dermatologists should recognize the problem and be familiar with it.
Fragrances and preservatives are the most frequent allergens in cosmetics; however, all ingredients should be considered as potential sensitizers.
Faced with clinical suspicion of ACD due to cosmetics, standard and specific patch testing, along with testing with the products used by the patients, should be carried out. Once the responsible allergen has been identified, we should inform and guide the patient about which products to use and which to avoid.
