dV/dt represents cell growth. Cells grow exponentially at a rate of µ_max, the stochastic fluctuation of free toxin levels inhibit maximum growth. The model states that given an initial volume of 1, cell volume will increase according to µV where µ is µ_max divided by the free toxin inhibition term [38]. The moment the cell has doubled in size (volume = 2), the cell contents are divided over the daughter cells following a binomial distribution. The simulation is restarted following one of these daughter cells. Should the kill-switch change state the initial conditions are reset to those at the start of the simulation [42].
