Cold weather hits taptim fish stocks.
AYUTTHAYA : Fish farmers in Bang Ban district are suffering as their taptim fish stocks have begun to die off due to the cold weather.
Most of the raised in baskets have stopped eating since the onset of the sudden cold spell this week, said Paiboon Ketyos, who owns a fish farm in tambon Chanee in Bang Ban district.
He said they also no longer swim to the bottom of the river and are often seen near the surface, gasping for air, and many have died already.
The fish are farmed in baskets alone the banks of the Chao Phraya River which runs through Bang Ban district and parts of neighboring Ang Thong province.
Farmers are worried their fish will die en masse, which would plunge them into debt.
