Indeed, in contrast to the common thermoplastic processing route (extrusion, injection), the FDM process generates neither high moulding pressure nor high shear rate. Therefore, thematerial fails to develop high cohesion with strong interlayer interactions, as shown by the transverse tensile properties of the printed samples. In such cases, the adhesion between filaments that can occur during printing is mainly due to interdiffusion phenomena, which control the mechanical response of the biocomposite.
