Ammonium nitrate fertilizer, mixed with a hydrocarbon fuel, was used in the explosion that rocked the Federal Building in Oklahoma City in April 1995, killing 166 people, including 19 children, and injuring 450 other. The damage to the building was so extensive that it had to be demolished. In addition, several other buildings in the downtown area were damaged by the explosion.
