Direct observation of animals in their natural environment
contributes important information about how
species adapt to a particular environment. Information
about behaviour and interactions at the level of individuals
is key to understanding how an animal may
impact the surrounding community as well as ecosystem
function, organisation and response to disturbance
(Piraino et al. 2002). Hence, studies of behaviour in the
field are fundamental for the effective conservation of
animals in their natural habitats (Mills et al. 2005).
