The condensed culture fluid was extracted three
times with equal volumes of technical grade ethyl
acetate in a large separatory funnel. Persistent emulsions
were broken by centrifuging for 5 min at about
300 X g. The combined extracts were dried over
anhydrous MgSO4 (MgSO4 7H20 heated to 550 C for
2 hr, powdered, and stored in a desiccator). The color
of the ethyl acetate solution was a golden yellow.
