In Lesson 1 she asked the students to read the quadratic formula aloud, sing it as a rhythm, and tell the story of The Sad Little Bee, because she believed the purely symbolic derivation of the formula could be overwhelming or challenging to many students, whereas those verbal and rhythmic representations and activities would make it a lot more joyful and easier for the students to remember the formula.
