2.2.2. Catalytic wet peroxide oxidation
For a typical run, synthetic wastewater which contains Reactive
Black 5 and Procion Red MX-5B is prepared with distilled water.
The required amount of hydrogen peroxide and activated carbon
is added and the pH of the wastewater is adjusted to the desired
value. The prepared wastewater is charged to the reactor and cooling
water is supplied to the process. The mixture is heated to the
desired temperature. When the reactor reaches the desired temperature,
the air flowrate is initiated and the reactor is pressurized.
The desired air flow rate is adjusted with the help of a needle valve.
During the experiment temperature, pressure and air flow rate are
recorded at every 10 min. At the end of the experiment, a sample
from the mixture is taken for analyzing the dye concentration.
