The Rockwell bike helmet relies on beanbags to protect the cyclist's head by spreading the forces of an impact more effectively than foam.
The Vaco12 technology, as the beanbag tech is known, was developed by Vacotechnology AG and has previously only been used in ski helmets. The individual pods of beans allow the helmet to conform more precisely to the user’s head, and the technology requires less material and allows more flexibility in design. The helmet also has a rigid outer shell and textile softshell mid-layer, which the company says allows the head to breathe.
