OsLTPL36 is located on chromosome 3 of the rice genome with a483-bp coding sequence. OsLTPL36 is composed of two exons andone intron by analyzing its full length genomic sequence (Fig. 1A).Analysis of the protein sequences of OsLTPL36 using Signal P 4.1 suggested the presence of an N-terminal hydrophobic signal peptide of 22 amino acid residues (Fig. 1B and Fig. S1), implying OsLTPL36 is most likely secreted to the apoplast. The predicted cleavage site was between amino acid residues 22 and 23, producing a mature protein of 92 amino acid residues with a predicted molecular mass of 10.34 kDa and a pI point of 7.63 (Fig. 1B). Annotation of the protein sequence on the Pfam website revealed that OsLTPL36 belonged to a plant non-specific lipid transfer protein family (cd04660). OsLTPL36 was characterized by an eight cysteine motif (8 CM) backbone indicated by red letter in Fig. 1B. The eight cysteine residues formed four disulfide bonds and stabilizeda hydrophobic cavity, which was regarded allowing the binding of different lipids and hydrophobic compounds.
