Bio-scrubber
This device was developed by the Aluminum Company of America. It uses a bio-scrubber to digest hazardous organic emission from soil, water, and air decontamination processes. The bio-scrubber consists of a filter with and activated carbon medium that supports microbial growth. This unique medium, with increased microbial population and enhanced bio-activity, converts diluted organic into carbon dioxide, water, and other nonhazardous compounds. The filter provides biomass removal, nutrient supplement, and moisture addition. It is used to remove organic contaminants in air-streams from soil, water, or air contamination processes. The technique is especially suited to treat streams containing aromatic solvents, such as benzene, toluene, xylene, alcohols, ketones, hydrocarbon, and yet others.
