Chapter 5: Business Level Strategy
TOM’s differentiation strategy is displayed through their unique service that has immense value with it. Blake Mycoskie was able to create a company that was different than any other and valued. His company provides a charitable opportunity for everyone that chooses to partake in the experience. TOM’s goal is to provide a pair of shoes for people in need. They are able to accomplish this by donating a pair of shoes for every pair that is purchased. They are creating a better tomorrow. People who purchase shoes from TOM’s are engaging in an activity that benefits those in need. By having the ability to interact in this way it provides people with a sense of goodwill as they are preforming charity for others. For people to interact with TOM’s to produce a better life for others the customers also become loyal to the cause and support the company. People who receive the free shoes are given a chance for better health and education. For individuals who are able to take health and education as a luxury, we want to give the same opportunities for others. TOM’s has a loyal following, because the cause is so noble. Young people are very involved in the TOM’s movement. They participate in hosting drives as well as donating for the movement. They are able to show their support through events such as a day without shoes, internships, and campus programs. The followers of TOM’s cause stay in contact with them through Facebook and Twitter. To purchase a pair of TOM's they are usually around $54 dollars. This money goes to a good cause and the TOMS logo has a reputation that people understand. They know their money is going to a good cause and others also see the good deeds they have done through their purchase. The cause is impacting the entire world in a positive manner to make it better.
