Summing up, the material suggests that Kauno Kolegija UAS and Dunaujvaros College UAS first
year students are very similar in assessing adaptation at college factors. Students of both colleges, despite
some social, psychological and academic difficulties, adapt to new study conditions quite efficiently and
have a realistic assessment of study environment and successful study outcomes.
1. Many researchers have investigated the way of life and study traditions of the academic youth,
concerning social, academic, the spiritual development of students. They raises the impact of student and
teacher cooperation in the study process and emphasizes the concept of academic freedom, social and
psychophysical aspects of adaptation. In our research were chosen: study environment, social-psychological
factors and obstacles to achieving good learning outcomes.
2. The research showed that Kauno Kolegija and Dunaujvaros College first year students have
adapted to the new study environment quite easily and quickly, although KC students adapted at college
easier than DC students. Students of both institutions had the biggest difficulties adapting to teacher demands
and their communication style and irregular assignments, however, DC respondents chose those factors less
than KC respondents. A new learning environment was basically assessed as positive by respondents from
both colleges, but DC respondents found it more important than KC respondents.
3. KC respondents are more dissatisfied with their learning outcomes than DC students and to
justify themselves, they chose various obstacles, all except two, which were more important for KC students
than for DC students. Heavy work-load was named by all respondents as the biggest obstacle seeking better
learning outcomes.
4. The survey disclosed that students from both colleges with traits like making brave decisions,
communicating easily, self-confidence and ability to keep good relationship with peers, helps them adapt
more easily. The duration of adaptation depends not on personal traits but on social ones (communication).
Good student and teacher relationships, getting along with peers, and the willingness of teachers to
communicate with students are the social factors that helped to adapt at college.
