Continuous fermentation has advantages like higher conversion rates, improved product consistency and reduced product losses. Immobilized yeast has been used in batch or continuous fermenta- tion. Advantages of the immobilized yeast cells over suspended cells includes protection against pH and toxic compounds, high cell load- ing density, easy cell separation process, reusability and lower sus- ceptibility to contamination by other microorganisms [12].
