Kohlberg’s Research Methods
The studies on which kohlberg’s theoretical proposals are founded consist of describing to children a series of incidents, each involving a moral dilemma. Each child is then asked which solution would be the best or proper one for each dilemma and why that solution would be better than others. For example’ here is a typical Kohlberg incident, the one known as the Heinz problem.
Responses to such moral dilemmas were then analyzed by Kohlberg and his colleagues to determine which of six developmental stages of moral judgment were reflected in the child’s or youth’s answers. The task of analyzing and grading children’s responses. Rather, the grading scheme requires training and involves some measure of subjective judgment on the part of the analyst.
