Recently, work has been done to investigate the structures and properties in the cocoons [19], [20], [21], [22], [23] and [24]. Researchers have looked into the microstructures of B. mori and from B. mori and H. cecropia cocoon using SEM, and measured their mechanical properties and gas diffusability. Such studies will be made on the 27 cocoons presented here to provide a database for bio-mining and more generalised structure–property-function relations for silkworm cocoons.
