Monarchy, a type of political system in which a single family rules from generation to generation. Monarchy is typical in an ancient society but still found in small-sized, closed-knitted, and simple society as if it were extended family. (i.e.Phutan, Brunai)
About 3,500 B.C. or after Horticultural and Pastoral Society, where there are surpluses of production, cities developed and grew larger as a result of trade ties. Each city or a city-state became the center of power with its own monarchy--a king or queen--who exercised power over his/her territory. Such as city-states in Lanna, Chiang-Mai, Chaing-Rai, Lamphun of Thailand-had their own monarchs who exercised absolute power.
