day. The separation of individual specimens of the D. erecta complex into forms is still somewhat arbitrary. The recently discovered and currently only known population (S. Perlman and K.R. Wood, 2001 personal communication.) of D. erecta f. alexandri on Kauai is morphologically relatively better distinguishable and resembles to historical populations described by Wagner (1952). Though complete understanding of the phylogeny and taxonomy of the genus Diellia in general evidently requires the use of a molecular approach, we included this local population in the analysis.
