this study (1992-1995) with earlier obtained data for these
two marinas between 1990-1992 shows that dissolved
butyltin concentrations in Breskens are in the same
order of magnitude, while concentrations in Scharendijke
decreased by approximately a factor of 2 for
DBT and TBT while MBT was more or less constant
(Ritsema, 1994). Compared to other coastal areas the
reported values here are in the normal range for butyltin
water concentrations from Breskens but rather high for
water concentrations from Scharendijke. The data presented
for Breskens and Scharendijke are both still far
above the limit value of 9.7ng TBT ÷ litre -1 and still
represent a toxicological risk to marine organisms 5
years after the ban on TBT antifouling paints in The
Netherlands.
