Schistosomiasis
Surveys conducted within a few kilometers from the project area in the
period from 1985 to 1988 have consistently showed the presence of Bulinus
globosus and Biomphalaria pfeifferi, the respective hosts of Schistosoma
heamatobium and S. mansoni (Taylor et al. 1989). This was confirmed by
a nonquantitative snail search conducted in the project area as part of the
HIA.
