Biofloc systems offer stable and sustainable
production, as they support selfnitrification
within fish or shrimp culture
ponds with zero water exchange. In biofloc
systems, algae develop first, followed
by a transition with foam formation, then
brown biofloc develops. This can take a
few weeks, depending on the culture biomass
in pond water. Transitioning is fast
with tilapia, but takes longer with shrimp.
