In the present study implants made of zirconia
of the type Z-Look3 of the Z-Systems company
were used exclusively. The zirconia alloy partly
stabilized with yttrium oxide is composed of the
following constituents: 95% Zr02 + 5% Y203
(BIO-HIP).
The implant length and the required implant
diameter are selected according to implantation
region, prosthetic situation and available bone.
The following implant sizes were used (see Table
1). After a preliminary examination and completed
hygiene phase, the implants were inserted
analogously to the implantation procedure for
screw implants made of titanium (Fig. 4a and
4b). Healing was transgingivally and was protected
against loads by a protective splint (Fig. 5).
All implants taken into consideration in the
study were inserted in the period from August
2003 to December 2005 in the MM day clinic for
holistic and aesthetic dental medicine in Meersburg
and Constance. Women (n=48) and men
(n=23) aged from 17 to 71 years with single tooth
gaps and partially toothed jaws were treated.
The routine checkups up to February 2006 also
took place in Constance.
