Some causes of visual impairment may be associated with other medical problems, such as cardiac defects or systemic disease (eg diabetes), which are more likely to affect dental care than the visual impairment. However, some causes of visual impairment do impact on dental care, ie diazepam and atropine need to be avoided for patients with glaucoma. The provision of dental care for individuals with compromising medical conditions is adequately dealt with elsewhere and will not be discussed here.
