Cochlochila bullita (Heteroptera: Tingidae) has been reported as a serious pest of Ocimum in India. It is also reported attacking O. kilimandscharicum and O. sanctum (Anon. 2007; Butani 1982; Palaniswami & Pillai 1983). C. bullita, also known as Ocimum tingid (Livingstone & Yacoob 1987; Sajap & Peng 2010), sucks the cell sap from the tender leaves, shoots and inflorescence. C. bullita was also found feeding on O. basilicum in Thailand (Tigvattnanont 1989) and on O. basilicum, O. sanctum, Coleus parviflorus and many other Lamiaceae plants (Livingstone & Yacoob 1987). This pest was reported for the first time on O. basilicum in the eastern part of India (Kumar 2011) and 100% plant infestation by C. bullita was reported in Jharkhand (Kumar & Bhatnagar 2012). C. bullita was observed feeding gregariously on Orthosiphon stamineus, resulting in curling and drying of leaf tips, symptoms of attack and damage to the crop (Sajap & Peng 2010) in Malaysia.
