Fromthese results, a correlation was identified between the
high activity of the antioxidant enzymes and the differential
protein species identified when comparing the two organisms.
Themost frequently identified protein (RuBisCo) is linked to the
Calvin cycle and is expressed in the presence of molecular
oxygen, which may explain the high activity of some enzymes.
Additionally, other protein species involved in Photosystem II
were found to be differentially abundant when the two
organisms were compared. As this system produces oxygen
species and hydrogen ions, the high activity of certain enzymes
found in T plants may also be explained by the presence of
oxidative stress.
