Similar is true for hotter temperatures during flowering andassociated sterility of flowers. Our simulations show that insome areas under spring wheat in the north (Astana) and in thesouth (Khorasan) of Central Asia CC will bring notably hottertemperatures during flowering. Crop breeders may be able toaddress the issue by targeted breeding for improved heat-tolerantvarieties or shortening of the vegetative period; but only up to acertain physiological limit. This means that CC may lead to a shiftof agro-ecozones, rendering wheat cropping impossible in someregions in the long-term future.
