1. Employees must be able to locate and easily
access the nearest fire extinguisher.
Acceptable – fire extinguishers placed on a
shelf, stand, or inside an unlocked cabinet at
acceptable height (at or below 1.5
meters/measured 5 feet from ground to top of
fire extinguisher).
Not acceptable – fire extinguishers placed
directly on the ground or obstructed from easy
access.
2. If the fire extinguisher is not visible in the
cabinet, the cabinet must be labeled “Fire
extinguisher inside cabinet;” and
3. If the fire extinguisher is located in a locked
cabinet, a means of emergency access (e.g.
breakable glass with attached hammer, access
panel with lever etc.) must be provided, so that
occupants can access the fire extinguisher in the
event of an emergency.
