Romania has a high level of renewable energy potential and has high targets regarding the share of Renewable energy in Romania’s electricity mix until 2020. To contribute towards this target and towards socio-economic and environmentally sustainable growth, Romania has adopted a mandatory quota system for renewable energy combined with a trade system with minimum and maximum price limits legally set up for green certificates. To comply with the mandatory trade system,the Romanian electricity suppliers have to demonstrate their share in renewable energy with sufficient green certificates. The highest number of certificate is given to solar energy with 6 certificates for each MWh produced.
