This article is spot on. If the succession is indeed settled, then Thailand has avoided what was a potentially divisive situation among various elites vying for power in the aftermath of the King's passing.
But the long game looks ominous. As the coup continues to retrench the elites who ran things before the rise of populist movements--specifically the elections of Thaksin and his sister--they run the risk of allowing deep resentments to fester among the populous disenfranchised Northeast. After experiencing the power they found in one man/one vote populism, those people may show the coupmasters that the genie can't be placed back into the bottle, and more unrest may well be inevitable.
