Listening to the audience, making adjustments to the map as necessary, and responding to the questions and inquiries can greatly simplify the task of gaining acceptance. There is no better way to gain employees’ trust than to show them that their input is valued—in other words, that their ideas and concerns are legitimate. The goal of creating the map is to document the reality of the current state, to develop a starting point for change. But, as shown in Figure 15.1, the objective of presenting the map is to create a single team of employees and managers alike within the value stream who are dedicated to improving the process.
