Accordingly on this day the monks perform Paravana instead of listening to Patimokkha (Discipline for monks), and lay
Buddhists celebrate this day as a holy day. They usually visit the temples to make merit, observe the precepts (five or eight) and listen to discourse on Dharma.
On the occasion another ceremony called “Tak Bat Devo” is held. According to the tradition “Pindapata” (offerings) is given to monk. “Tak Bat Devo” is derived from the word “Tak Bat Devo Rohana.” It is said that Buddha came down from “Tavatimsa” heaven and performed the “Yamaka Patihariya (the Great couple miracle performance) above a mango tree in Sravasti and performed seventh rains retreat at Tavatimsa” to preach Abhidhamma (Metaphysics) to His mother.
