Although there was an increase in the relative liver weights of the Solanum treated group by 19–24% after 6 months of treatment, yet there was no effect on the liver function tests as evidenced by the lack of interference in the levels of the four determined liver enzymes. The observed increase in relative liver to body weight seems therefore not to influence the functional activity of the liver. This is further supported by the fact that treatment with the extract had no influence on any of the determined hematological parameters or plasma protein and plasma albumin levels, in addition to the lack of any abnormalities in liver tissue upon histopathological examination.
