4.4.4. Testing the universal relevance of HRM
Hoque set out to test whether there was such pressure to provide high-quality
services in hotels that quality enhancement, together with high investment in
HRM, led to better performance. This would test the universal relevance of HRM in
the hotel sector. The sample, that was already split three ways (‘cost-reducers’,
‘quality-enhancers’ and ‘others’) to perform the external fit tests described above,
was further reclassified to enable comparisons between business strategy categories.
Given the small sample size in this survey, the following six categories were
determined:
