Turban-shaped, and 1.11-1.15 times as high as wide. The last whorl is not ascending. The spire is nearly straight-sided,with the last whorl slightly expanding. The umbilicus is open and funnel-shaped, about 0.26-0.30 times the width of the shell. The periostracum is light yellowish-brown in fresh specimens. The shell has 4.3-4.5 whorls. The protoconch contains 1.5-1.6 protruding whorls. The microsculpture consists of a mesh of fine reticulating granules, superimposed on which are distinct evenly-spaced, spiral threads. The teleoconch is sculptured with raised spiral threads which are crossed with oblique growth threads. The sculpture is most distinctly developed on last whorl, and irregularly developed or poorly developed in the whorls of the spire. The peristome is auriculate in shape due to the strong indentation on the parietal wall, and the middle of the palatal walls.
The shell aperture has a complex arrangement of plicae and lamellae. The posterior corner of the aperture has a bay demarcated by a large angular lamella and the upper palatal fold. The angular lamella is relatively high, ftat, and moderately long; the upper palatal fold is short and stout, and is confined to the margin of the peristome. The face of the parietal, columellar, and basal margins of the peristome has nine short low plicae. Deep-set within the aperture are five small denticles within the bay, and nine other denticles that are aligned with the plicae. Usually the denticles along the basal and bay walls are modified into forward pointing hooks, the largest of which is the basal plica. The parietal lamella is very long and almost as high as the angular lamella, but narrower. The subparietal lamella is low but nearly as long as the parietal lamella. The columellar lamella is stout and long
Acinolaemus ptychochilus was originally found in leaf litter samples taken from the bases of limestone ledges in densely shaded thickets at Doi Pha Sao (Mountain), a few km west of Ban Prang Ma-O. The specific name refers to the species. Folded lip
