But no more! Now the garage is bright and light. Dana started by updating the original 1920s doors with light grey paint — they're still rustic and add a ton of character, but now they fit into her coastal design. When the doors are open this small spaces feels like a tropical oasis, thanks to the surrounding avocado trees, orange trees, and bamboo. Oh, and don't even get us started on the trellis overflowing with ivy above the garage doors that totally makes this home's exterior.
Inside, Dana opted for white walls that help make the space feel bigger than it is, with wooden accents (like the loft's ladder, accents in the kitchen, and the table and chairs set). A tiny kitchen and bathroom were both added to make this space private (meaning you don't have to let your guests use your bathroom when they stay the night) and functional. Above the cozy living room is a lofted bedroom that takes advantage of the peaked ceiling (just don't try to stand up!).
Even though this space is intended for guests, we actually think it's much better suited for a seriously relaxing staycation. If we were the homeowners we'd totally load up on popcorn and movies, open up the garage doors, and pretend we're someplace topical on a weekly basis.
