This mod adds the Perpetually Improbable Luck Lozenge, aka "The PILL". When swallowed, the PILL will apply one MANY different effects. "Which effect", you ask? No idea. Maybe it will do something good. Maybe it will do something bad. There's no way to know until you try it.
All of that is really just a flimsy pretext for this mod's true purpose. You see, I've been making mods and playing with Don't Starve code since DS was in beta and since then I've written a lot of code that, for one reason or another, just never made it's way into a mod. So for the last couple of years, all of this code has been doing nothing but collecting dust and cluttering up my hard drive. A lot of it has never been in a mod and it hasn't been used by anyone but myself. That is... until now.
What effects the PILL can apply:
I'm not going to list them. There is currently over 50(and growing) different things it can do and if I have to write a description for every single effect, I'll give up on adding new effects all together. To give some examples, a PILL could give you the power to kill giants with your bare hands, tear down an entire forest in seconds, or summon floating orbs of electricity. They may also poison you, destroy your base, burn down your crops or summon murderous creatures. The best part of all is, the PILL can be eaten by just about anything. And even in the hands of a simple harmless rabbit, a single PILL could mean game over for you.
How to get PILLs:
The PILL is uncraftable. They'll randomly drop throughout your day while you work. For example, mining boulders may cause a PILL to drop. Chopping trees may cause a PILL to drop. Getting into fights may cause a PILL to drop. Eating a PILL may cause a PILL to drop. Even just walking around can drop a PILL. So the best way to get a PILL is to stay active. On average, you may find two or three PILLs a day. But don't be surprised if you find 6 in a day or even go a couple days without finding any.
FAQ:
Q: Is this RoG and base DS compatible?
A: YES. QUIT ASKING.
Q: Calm down. Some mods have separate RoG and base DS versions.
A: Then those mods were written by bad programmers. It's super easy to program a mod that will detect which environment it's in.
Q: Can you add screenshots/list all of the effects?
A: NO. Coming up with a name, description and screenshot for every effect? That's called negative reenforcement. Quit being such a wimp and make a decision; either use it or don't.
Q: Are the effects permanent?
A: No. However, many can make a huge, long term impact on your game, and even result in a game over. Some effects happen instantly, while other effects can last for an extended period of time. There's a configuration option for adjusting the base duration of the PILL's timed effects in the configuration menu. But remember, changing the duration applies to both, the good effects AND the bad.
Q: These PILLs seem a lot like the pills from Binding of Isaac.
A: You're focusing too much on the pill aspect. The objective here is not to recreate BoI's pills. I'm just using it as a framework to finally make good use of code that would otherwise never be in a mod. In a nutshell, this is a compilation mod. However, I did include a couple of BoI's pill effects just for fun.
Q: Why aren't these effects in other mods?
A: It's usually one of two reasons. Either:
1. Making art assets eats up too much time, effort, and is such a thankless task that NOBODY ever wants to help. So instead of procrastinating the work I'll probably never get around to finishing since I've already got too many other projects going on, I decided to put them all together in this compilation mod.
2. Some of these effects are grievously overpowered, even by DS mod standards. There's simply no reasonable way to balance out the gameplay, bar this mod.
Q: I experienced a crash.
A: Take a look at this.[www.copy.com]
