10. Conclusion
The results indicate that fungal elements and higher levels of
heavy metals such as lead and cadmium were found in canned
meat products in Saudi Arabia. This may pose a real danger to
consumers, since canned meat products are readily accessible
and very convenient. There is clearly a need to improve quality
control in the processing of these canned meat products and
also imposition of stricter guidelines from the Saudi authorities
on the importation and sale of canned meat products contaminated
with fungal elements, bacteria and heavy metals.
