Unfortunately, this view remains very far from
current practice, at least in France. Speculative
inventories still exist, although they are slowly
decreasing in number, thus showing that the
optimization of all processes from the plants to
the stores is not exactly on the agenda. Companies
such as Promodès are certainly trying to
implement an efficient consumer response, like
Wal-Mart in the USA, with the help of sophisticated
computer systems.
