In December 2014, the Chinese Government indicated its interest in logistics facilities development in Lao PDR, such as nine major border posts including the VLP development and management, international bridges, and special economic zones. The Chinese Government also has a plan to develop an international railway in the Greater Mekong Sub region (GMS) including a leg between Kunming and Vientiane. According to a hearing investigation to the Lao Government officer by the JICA Study Team, the development site of a new railway station in Vientiane Capital City will be identified, although the Lao Government may not authorize a commitment yet.
