The state-run Transport Co, which operates interprovincial buses, is looking to introduce minibuses on shorter routes that attract few passengers in the face of fierce competition from low-cost airlines and private passenger vans.
The chairman of the board of Transport Co, Anusorn Saengnimnuan, said the company has recorded a 30% drop in business this year, compared with the same period last year.
He said travellers were turning to low-cost airlines, that were quicker and charged fares comparable to coaches.
