His Majesty the King yesterday (January 1) visited the Chang Hua Man agricultural development project in Thayarng district of Phetburi province to observe its progress.
The King proceeded to the royal-initiated project at Tambon Khao Krapuk in Thayarng district from Klai Kangwon Palace in Prachuab Khiri Khan.
During the visit, His Majesty the King observed a dairy milk farm and fed grass to milk cows and gave milk to a 41-day old calf. The calf was milked by the King during his last visit to the farm on December 15 last year. The young ox now weighs 70 kilograms and is in good health. The calf will be raised to be a breeder.
The dairy farm was established at the royal initiative in 2009 on a plot of 250-rai of land as a pilot project to develop economic crop available in the region. The farm will be a learning center for farmer and encourages participation of people in the areas to help run the farm.
The farm was started in 2010. It now has 20 cows, mostly of European breeds.
The Chang Hua Man project has proved a success. Apart from experimenting with cultivation of crops such as Phetburi jambul fruit and asparagus, it has built windmills for electricity generation
