Once the south could see that it was in danger of losing the war, the Confederacy created the "Confederate States Colored Troops" to add more regiments to their army. The black regiments were segregated from white regiments and were usually sent off into dangerous situations because they were seen as expendable. Dr. Leonard Hayes, an African-America professor at Southern University stated, “When you've eliminated the black Confederate soldier, you've eliminated the history of the South.
